Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
I really appreciate your concern for the unintentional passing of urine.

Preventive measures include:
You must avoid certain drinks, foods and medications like alcohol, caffeine, decaffeinated tea, carbonated drinks, artificial sweeteners and corn syrup that can increase urine formation and stimulate your bladder and increase your volume of urine.

Following pelvic floor muscle exercises (Kegel exercises) are found to be effective in controlling the incontinence:

1. Tighten (contract) the muscles you would use to stop urinating and hold for five seconds, and then relax for five seconds. (If this is too difficult, start by holding for two seconds and relaxing for three seconds.)
2. Work up to holding the contractions for 10 seconds at a time.
3. Aim for at least three sets of 10 repetitions each day

If these exercises do not yield good results then you will have to consult a urologist for further evaluation like urine analysis, bladder diary, estimation of post voidal residual urine in the bladder, cystoscopy or pelvic ultrasound to find out the underlying cause.

Following medications are found to be useful in the treatment of incontinence:
Oxybutynin, Tolterodine, and Tamsulosin.

Hope the suggestions given above could be beneficial to you in getting the treatment and prevention of urinary incontinence.

I wish you a very good health.
