
What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain?

Question: Hi, I have had a discomfort and pain almost like something is torn in my left upper abdomen just under the ribcage.This area tends to become more uncomfortable when I have had a heavy meal causing distension in this area.(about size of half a closed fist)area is soft,swollen and tender at lower edge of ribs.

It looks like you are having acid peptic disease, in other words gastritis, here is what you should do
1. Tab omeprazole with domperidone is the ideal tablet for you. Take twice daily ( morning and evening ) 20 min before food
2. Eat meals regularly. I recommend smaller meals rather than 3 heavy meals
3. Avoid smoking, alcohol, caffeine , milk and milk products until you are better
4. Get atleast 6 hours of sleep a day
