Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern and the problem you are facing.
There could be several causes for pain abdomen in children.
Depending on the site of the pain the causes may differ also.
Some times pain in the upper part of the abdomen (stomach) could be because of increased acid secretion in the stomach. But since there is no improvement with the medication you are using such cause can be ruled out.
Pain in the lower part of the abdomen could be because of various conditions. One of such cause could be
urinary tract infection. A child with such problem may have burning sensation while passing urine, increased frequency of urination, fever, urgency to pass urine etc.
Pain abdomen could also be because of
constipation. Does your child pass stool regularly?
Some times infection in the intestines like
amoebiasis, colitis etc could be the cause of pain abdomen. In such scenario there may be associated blood and mucus in the stool. Even a
throat infection can present as stomach pain in children.
Some times children may have stomach pain because of stress related issues. A harsh teacher in the school, bullying by co students, family problems, force feeding etc could be the cause.
There are certain danger signs in a child with stomach pain which indicates it is a serious issue. These include recurrent
vomiting,
severe pain,
weight loss, association with fever of long duration, blood in the stool include some of them.
Hope I could explain the various etiologies which could be responsible for stomach pain.
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
