What Causes Uterine Bleeding Post Intercourse?
Unfortunately, you will need an extensive work up
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
The most common causes of uterine bleeding are:
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome
- Hypothyroidism
- Pituitary dysfunction
- Uterine hyperplasia/abnormalities
- Cervical lesions/HPV
- Tumors/Polyps
- Urinary tract infections
For a complete work up, you should have routine blood work with endocrine and metabolic diseases, pelvic ultrasound, pap smear with cultures and HPV testing, a pregnancy test, a biopsy of the cervix and endometrial tissue, prolactin levels, and thyroid levels.
Based on your history, you could have a cervical abnormality such as a polyp or mass. Your doctor should have seen this on Pap smear, however, and taken a biopsy. If you had blood work which was all negative or unremarkable, then you will need biopsies of the cervix, endometrial tissue, and uterus. You also should have an ultrasound of the uterus for adenomyosis or masses.
