Brief Answer:
Estrogen dependent benign tumors.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

Fibroids are estrogen dependent tumors and grow with high estrogen levels in the body. There can be a genetic predisposition. If the fibroid is gradually increasing it can cause an increase in bleeding causing iron deficiency anaemia. Sometimes there can be sudden hemorrhage that is difficult to control.

There is no effect of dietary changes or exercise or lifestyle changes on the size of the fibroid. There are medicines that can reduce the size of fibroid to some degree but these cannot make the fibroids to disappear. These are hormonal therapies that are associated with side effects.

Usually upon achieving menopause, fibroids often shrink and bleeding is controlled. If there are multiple fibroids, or a large one, surgical treatment would be a better choice of treatment. Do start iron supplements as well and increase iron in your diet.

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX for your response. I would like to avoid surgical procedures as much as possible. How often should I do a follow up check on the fibroid and which tests would you recommend for this? How do I keep a check on hemorrhage? For how long should I take the iron supplements ? Which formulation would you recommend for proper absorption as I am a vegetarian.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You need to have an ultrasound scan of your lower abdomen every 6 months and some blood tests.
Laboratory assessment of hemoglobin, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, T4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and androgen profile can be done.
To decrease the bleeding if Pause M is helping then do continue with it. If the bleeding is still uncontrolled then other hormonal treatments are needed after consulting your gynecologist.
You can take the iron supplements as long as the bleeding continues. You can take Fefol Z for good absorption.
Hope my answer is helpful.
