Question: I'm 54 years old and haven't had a period for 18 months. I've recently started a sexual relationship after many years of no sexual activity and today I began having a period. Everything is normal as far as my previous periods have been. Is this normal

Brief Answer:
Post menopausal bleeding, should be investigated

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Bleeding after 18 months of no periods is considered as post menopausal bleeding.
It can be due to many causes including cancer of cervix and uterus, which should be ruled out at the earliest.
I will suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated including pap smear, ultrasound and biopsy if required to confirm the diagnosis and get further treatment accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
