What Causes Vaginal Itching?

Question: My mother is getting itching near her vagina. She is feeling a bit colder as well. She is suspecting this to be due to urinary infection which she has faced in the past as well.
Could you please suggest any medicine?

Brief Answer:
Investigations and treatment suggested.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
AT 53, she would be menopausal I assume.
She could be having atrophy of the vagina due to hormonal deficiency.
This results in dryness, itching, and easy breaking and infection.
You should consult a gynecologist.
SHe should be having an internal evaluation, pelvic ultrasound scan and urine routine microscopy testing and urine culture test.
This will confirm the diagnosis of atrophic vaginitis and also confirm a urinary tract infection.
Feeling colder at this age is also common due to hormonal changes.
Treatment generally consists of local estrogen gel.
All the best
