What could be my problem?
Brief Answer:
possibly UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for query to HCM,
Vaginal pain with abdominal fullness with pain is most often associated with urinary tract infection in reproductive age group if vaginal infections have been ruled out. If there is no pain on intercourse , then PID and endometriosis is ruled out.
Though a per vaginal examination would be ideal first and also a urine culture test to ascertain the diagnosis.
Also there is a possibility that vaginal dryness may cause similar presentation and that is usually associated in premenopausal or menopausal women.
you may furnish the menstrual details please, also last intercourse and any issues you have seen during the act ... they shall be helpful.

No intercourse . I am menopausal though. Haven't had a menstrual cycle for quite sometime. Very concerned whether I have an ovarian cyst. How can you tell?
Brief Answer:
answered..
Detailed Answer:
As far as possibility of an ovarian cyst is concerned , the symptoms should have been few months old and not acute onset and this would require an ultrasound pelvis to rule out for definite.
Vaginal pain as it is accompanied indicates a possible vaginal dryness and vaginitis without discharge to cause similar pain.
It is suggested that being menopausal now, an ultrasound is required to estimate the size of ovaries to rule out any ovarian mass. Simple cysts would be uncommon now.
Please get an ultrasound pelvis done and thereupon the reports can be discussed. In the meantime continue on the antibiotics which you are already on for UTI.

Thank you verymuch for your insight. I have somewhat of vaginal stenosis as well. The onlty way is an abdominal ultrasound . Do you have any insight of another way to examine?
Brief Answer:
answered
Detailed Answer:
Another way is a bimanual per vaginal exam by a qualified physician where if an ovarian cyst is present , it is usually palpable per vaginally. But the confirmatory would be an ultrasound indeed and if any mass found then a CT SCAN would be required to delineate the contents , if its a simple or complex cyst thereupon.
