What Causes Vomiting After Waking Up In The Morning With Occasional Heartburn?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: My husband has started to wake up with vomit in his mouth. It's happened 3-4 times and luckily he wakes up. He's not overweight, and he's always slept well until these episodes. We have had no lifestyle changes, he does not drink much or often. But he does on occasion get heartburn, but it is rare. He is 48, works out every day and has a very good diet. I think this could be very serious, like what if he doesn't wake up and chokes in his sleep? Any suggestions? I am making an appointment to see a doctor today.

Brief Answer:
Possible hiatal hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hi.and welcome to HCM. These symptoms indicate gastroesophageal disorder. First, you dint need to worry about choking since this won't happen. This is so called food nocturnal regurgitation. It happens in people with gastritis, hiatal hernia, esophageal structure or gerd. symptoms are aggravated by smoking, coffee, spicy food and carbonated drinks. He should avoid eating and drinking prior to sleep, sleep with elevated upper body, drink menta tea and avoid smoking. Also,he must do gastroscopy to rule out what I 've mentioned above. Wish you good health. regards
