Hi welcome to Health care magic,
Yes any food like crab soup can irritate the stomach and cause severe acidity and bleeding.
Dark brown vomit indicates altered blood from the stomach. If it was a single bout you may not have to worry too much.
Give him Omeprazole 20 mg twice a day along with a liquid antacid--2 tsf three times a day--for 3 days.
If it repeats--show your doctor--especially since he is a Diabetic

My concern is weather the problem was from the crab soup being "tained," and does he have food poising? the symptoms started about 4 hours after he had eaten it. He had several hours of nauseousness before he threw up.
Brief Answer:
it has to be irritation and not tainted
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
It has to be irritation and not tainted. If it was tainted, he would continue to throw up followed by loose motions. Hope this clarifies it further.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
