Question: Vulvar rash, fairly defined demarcation, was initiated by scraping skin on outer edge of vulva when shaving (UNINTENTIONALLY). Initially pink with tiny white "dots"; started as an itchy rash, the 'lesion'(?) or patch was a little raised and now it is flat and smaller in size. It still is occasionally itchy (when dry). Topical yeast cream/ointment and cortisone OTC stop the itching. This patch has been present for about a year, although getting smaller and less itchy, but this length of time is a concern.
A gyn saw it on my first office visit a few weeks ago. He does not want to treat it or listen to my medical history, but does want to do a biopsy. I can't find any online pictures that are similar (the most similar photos are 'dermatitis' and diaper rash). My husband is not a gyn but he says this pink patch appears to be slowly improving.
I have frequent yeast infections because of antibiotics for physician diagnosed "undetermined dermatitis" or "atypical rosacea" on my face which can worsen with stress. A blood test and two biopsies on my face revealed nothing abnormal. I now have fairly frequent infections at the biopsy sites. The biopsies were done three years ago. My age is 53 and I have no other illness or condition.
My Question: Must a biopsy be done before a possible diagnosis or trying ANY other treatment, if only for a few weeks? The doctor dismissed my questions so I plan to get another opinion but we do not have health insurance.
