What Causes Watery Eyes, Soreness And Pain In Eyes In An Elderly Person?
Question: Hello! I am 69 years of age, in good health, with no history of headaches in my life at all. This spring I have had runny eyes and soreness in my eyes along with occasional, infrequent, mild pain in my temple on the right side of my head. I have long had pollen allergies and initially I attributed this to spring pollen--trees, grass pollen and the like, both of which have been inordinately high in the area of the southeastern US. These symptoms have continued. I have not had these symptoms in past XXXXXXX I would be grateful for any advice that you might have. Thank you! XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Take Combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drugs.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your runny eyes are mostly due to allergy you are having.
Headache is not explained by allergic etiology.
So for allergic runny eyes, you should take combination of antihistamine (levocetrizine or fexofenadine) and anti allergic (montelukast).
Please let me know
1. Is your headache constant?
2. Do you have stressful life?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

The headache is not constant. It only occurs two or three times a day and then only very briefly and when it does occur it is not severe at all. I assumed the occasional head pain was related to the runny eyes since both symptoms began at the same time about 6 weeks ago. I do not have a stressful life and I am in otherwise excellent health for my age. ALSO, will the antihistamine also relieve the mild soreness in my right eye in addition to the runny eye? Thanks!
Please confirm receipt of my follow-up question above. No hurry on the reply. Just wished to ensure it went through. thx

I have mild hypertension for which I take 20mg benazepril daily. No diabetes, nor family history of diabetes. Based on the mild headache symptoms which occur infrequently, I am wondering if this might be related to sinus headaches. The mild (occasional) pain is associated with the sinus just behind and above my eyes and on either side of the eyes. Some days it is not even there. An associate recommended Sudafed for sinus pressure as they had similar symptoms and the Sudafed helped greatly. Do you know anything about Sudafed or similar drugs? Does it also contain antihistamine?
Brief Answer:
It is having pseudoephedrine.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Sudafed is having pseudoephedrine.
It is sympathomimetic drug. It is not antihistamine drug.
But it is having similar effect but lesser intensity.
In my opinion, you will be more improved if you take antihistamine drug as you are improving with Sudafed.
Please let me know
1. Have you ever undergone anti histamine drugs?
2. Which other drugs you are taking, other than Sudafed?

I take benazepril for mild hypertension and simvastatin to maintain cholesterol. No other drugs. Final question: Is it okay to take Sudafed and an antihistamine simultaneously? What antihistamine would you recommend? Thanks!
Brief Answer:
Yes, you can take both together.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you can definitely take Sudafed with antihistamine drugs together.
No harm it.
In fact commercially, combination of both of them is available easily.
In antihistamine, levocetrizine or fexofenadine is good for you.
