What Causes Weakness In Legs And Difficulty In Climbing Up Stairs?
Question: My mother who is 59 years old is having the problem of pain in the lower legs starting from knees till foot since last December.
She was suggested blood tests by local orthopediacian , that indicated deficiency in vitamin D and calcium. Also the X ray for the knees was done that indicated a slight gap in her left knee.
She was prescribed calcium and vitamin D tablets which she is taking for the last six months. The current problem is that she faces weakness in legs and can neither stand for a long time on her legs nor walk long distances. She also faces difficulty climbing stairs.
please suggest.
Thanks.

Hi
Thanks for your query

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your mother is likely to be having osteoarthritis with vitamin D deficiency as it is common in her age. I think she is likely to be benefitted by Diacerine, glucosamine and vitamin D3. She can take analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Quadriceps excercises and physiotherapy is beneficial.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.
Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
