What Causes Weakness In Legs And Difficulty In Climbing Up Stairs?

Question: My mother who is 59 years old is having the problem of pain in the lower legs starting from knees till foot since last December. She was suggested blood tests by local orthopediacian , that indicated deficiency in vitamin D and calcium. Also the X ray for the knees was done that indicated a slight gap in her left knee. She was prescribed calcium and vitamin D tablets which she is taking for the last six months. The current problem is that she faces weakness in legs and can neither stand for a long time on her legs nor walk long distances. She also faces difficulty climbing stairs. Please suggest. Thanks.
