What Causes Weakness In The Legs Long After Hip Surgery?
Question: I am an active bicycle rider and compete in some racing events but about 2 years ago I broke a hip in a crash. A few months later I started riding again and everything was going well for a few months then all of a sudden my legs would no longer recoup normally. I suspect that somehow my legs are not getting glycogen from the liver or else it is getting it but has lost the ability to utilize it. Do you have any idea what it could be?
Brief Answer:
Accelerated arthritis leading to muscle wasting
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
It is particle that your makes around the hip and knee may be atrophing because of previous trauma to hip leasing to accelerated arthritis. This accelerated arthritis causes thinning and weakness of the muscles in that region.
Do get an Xray and MRI of the involved joints to confirm arthritis and muscle atrophy.
You can take L-Carnitine to increase the power supply to the muscles.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
