Brief Answer: Can be a metabolic disorder. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. Weight loss occurs when the body does not absorb as many calories as it uses. Rapid unintentional weight loss in women may be a symptom of serious illness. A comprehensive health history is the first step in making a diagnosis. It is not always associated with a serious problem but the possibilities need to be ruled out. Chronic infections, depression, diabetes, metabolic disorders, hormonal disturbances, malignancy, HIV, etc needs to be ruled out. This weight loss is not likely to be related to fentanyl patch she is having. You need to see an endocrinologist who will work with you to determine what's causing the weight loss and the best way to treat the problem. Your wife may need a special diet to prevent further weight loss or to regain lost pounds. Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Rakhi Tayal. For future query, you can directly approach me through my profile URL http://bit.ly/Dr-Rakhi-Tayal
