please dont worry & reply to my questions & yes, tell the doctor too.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to health care magic!
I have read your question and its about your child taking latuda and also having complaint of memory loss.
The question is important but the information provided is not sufficient to come to a conclusion.
I would like to know few things before I can guide you on this symptom.
1 was he having memory loss at all before the begining of his illness?
2 did the memory loss start after starting of the drug?
3. Is there any history of drug abuse in the patient?
4. Any history of head injury in recent past?
5. Is he depressed?
Yes, you must tell the doctor about his memory complaint. There is no hiding from the treating team.
As far as I think (& yes, there are many similar cases) this can be simply due to depression or anxiety state and will get fine with the treatment.
Lot of patients have stomach problems/digestion problems while on medications. So, many times even I have to use antacids for the same. So ,dont worry about that too.
Please give replies for the above questions so that I can guide better.
Wish you good luck and wish speedy recovery for the patient.

it can be due to depression itslef if that is still not treated properly.

Hello
Thanks for writing back.
According to your reply, you noticed memory fall after starting latuda and that the antacid could be the cause of it.
So, ideally in such a case I would stop the antacid and see if the problem is handled in a week or atleast gets better. This would tell us if the antacid particularly is to blame.
Secondly, for helping acidity- try giving only non spicy and less oily food stuff. Cold milk sips also help in acidity. Eat more green veggies. Put an extra pillow to handle reflux at night (if there is one).
Thirdly, you should surely meet your doctor once and tell him this problem has come up. To be on the safer side I would have recommended a CAT scan head.
Fourthly, it is like recent memory loss of day to day events. So, if that is just due to depression (and that is very commobly seen in depression) then it will surely get normal on its own with antidepressants itself.
You can check indirectly if he remembers the things which he likes to do or is intrested in. This will point to the cause being lack of concentration and not actual memory loss.
Donot ask the patient repeted questions all the time to cross check his memory. This will hurts him and would harm his confidence more.
Stay calm and also comfort him by telling that this will get ok after sometime.
Mostly I have seen that the memory complaints are there in depressive cases who have anxiety also. These all get better with treatment. May be that his depression is still there significantly so the memory problem has also cropped up.
I hope the reply is useful for you.
Wish you good luck!
