What Causes Weird Sensations In Throat While Suffering From Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Question: I'm a 37 year old female who has rheumatoid in my fingers! I was diagnosed with hyper mobility a year ago also! Over the last few years I experienced a frightening sensation with my throat! One side feels like it twists out of position ! Sometimes it goes back to normal straight away, other times it can stay like that for a few minutes which is very painful! It is not triggered by food. It can happen spontainiously , it is happening more frequently now and is worrying. Can you shed some light?
Brief Answer:
? rheumatoid arthritis. Need few more details.
Detailed Answer:
Good evening..
Thank you for writing on health care magic. Well if you have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, one thing I would like to know is how optimum is your disease control and what medications are you on?
As for the throat, does it hurt also when it changes it s position ?
3. Do you feel difficulty in swallowing?
There is a possibility of temporomandibular joint involvement with rheumatoid arthritis if uncontrolled. So if there is inflammation going on we need to control it first
Do let me know these queries. Would try to guide you further

Regarding my rheumatoid arthritis, I was diagnosed last October and put on salasopyrn but made me feel awful. Now on methotrexate but only just started! I treat pain with codeine but only when really bad as can't cope with side effects!
My hands are getting worse and have a few inflamed nodes on knuckles now!
I thought the hyper mobility would be the cause of my twisted throat? Haven't had an episode for a few months but last week it happened again and wouldn't go back for a few minutes! I do have pain when it happens and get a painky feeling because it feels so uncomfortable and unnaturel! It seems to happen if I get into an awkward position( like painting) but it can happen spontaneously when I just turn my head to talk to someone!

Brief Answer:
possibly TM joint syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Good evening
Sorry for the late reply. Was hung up with the duties. Well, the sort of syndrome you are describing could be just a function temporomandibular joint syndrome. Yes, it can be due to joint hypermobility also but we dont expect it to pain so much. Secondly even rheumatoid arthritis can affect this joint and can cause pain at times.( although more persistent pain will be there in Rheumatoid). You can consult an ENT surgeon once to see if the structure is ok. Functional Temporomandibular joint syndrome is a very common problem and is usually beningn, not much you will have to worry about
Hope the information was useful.
