What Causes Wheezing, Retractions, Cough And Cold Despite Taking Asthalin, Livolin And Duolin?
Can you please confirm the difference between Asthalin, Livolin, Duolin + Budocort.
My 15month old child is administered with Duolin 0.5 + Budocort 0.5 + Augmentil 4 ml twice a day, but did not show any sign of improvement (Wheezing + retractions + cough/cold) and had severe continuous cough without break yesterday. Coughing is soo intense that i thought of rushing to hospital immediately.
Checked with the Doctor who initially took the lead of treatment for my son in RR hospital. He advised Asthalin 0.3 + Saline 3 ml every 4hr. My son look slightly better today.
Just want your advise to come out of this vicious circle and correct course of medication.
Asthalin is having salbutamol.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Asthalin is salbutamol.
Duolin is combination of levosalbutamol and ipratropium.
Budecort is budesonide.
Salbutamol and levosalbutamol are short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA).
Levosalbutamol is newer, better and more efficient molecule than salbutamol.
Ipratropium is anti cholinergic drug.
Both SABA and anti cholinergic drugs are bronchodilators.
And hence combination (duolin) is better than plain salbutamol (asthalin).
Budesonide is inhaled corticosteroid (ICS). It is anti inflammatory. It is also indicated in wheezing and cough.
So for your child, in my opinion, you should continue with duolin and budecort.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
