What Causes White Patches On My Tonsils With Sore Throat?

Question: I have a bad sore throat with white patches on my tonsils, and now white bumps on the side of my cheek, swollen lymph nodes, headache and conjunctivitis. I N coughing uo green phlegmI tested negative for strep what else could this be? Just a viral infection?

Hello

White patches on the throat can be due to many different types of bacterial infections including strep.

The other causes are like infectious mono, Candida. Diptheria and even some blood disorders.

All these will need special tests like throat swab, blood counts etc, hence I would like you to meet your ENT doctor / local GP who can order throat swabs and other tests. I suggest you visit the doctor at the earliest as you might need a course of antibiotic.

In the meanwhile start salt water gargling. Tylenol cold and flu can also be useful.
