What Causes Worsening Of Asthma After Having Klonopin For Vertigo?

Question: I currently take 1/2 of 0.5mg of colonopan at bedtime to help with my vertigo and recently my asthma has flared up really bad and my albuterol inhaulers make me super jittery and my heart races. I was wondering if it would be safe to take 1mg of Ativan (that had been prescribed to me previously due to the shakiness and high anxiety I suffered from the predisone last time my asthma flared up). I've taken the ativan before for the shakiness and rapid heart beat from my asthma inhaulers but I just recently started the 1/2 of a 0.5mg of colonopan and wonder if the 2 are safe to take at these relatively small doses?

I can understand your problem. If we consider safety in asthma then benzodiazepines are considered as relatively safer drugs for sedation and anxiety. You have developed aggravation of symptoms with Clonazepam.

Ativan is Lorazepam and the drug is relatively shorter acting as compared to Clonazepam if we consider half lives of these drugs. Lorazepam is relatively safer as compared to Clonazepam in asthma. Dose equivalent of 0.5 mg Clonazepam is 2 mg Lorazepam so if you have prescription of Ativan it would be safe to take the drug and you will not face much worsening of symptoms.

So if taken in low doses benzodiazepines are safe to use in asthma. Consult your doctor before making any change in prescription.
