there are multitude of causes for yellowish vomitus.
Yellow vomit suggests bile, indicating that the pyloric valve is open and bile is flowing into the stomach from the duodenum.
General causes include:
1-Gallbladder surgery makes some susceptible to vomiting up yellow bile.
2-Intestinal blockage
3-Bile reflux
4-cyclic vomiting syndrome
5-Drug use , medications and alcohol consumption
6-chemotherapy and radiation
7-Gastroenteritis
8-Food allergies and poisoning.
However these will have to be clinically correlated to arrive at a diagnosis. Also, please mention since how long do you have vomiting and how many episodes per day.

Only one time and that was last night
My husband just informed me that he had heartburn last night and that his blood sugar was high. When he threw up the yellow substance he blood sugar went from 316 to 220

If it was only one time, gastritis might have also caused such yellowish vomitus and is not very significant as the chances of involvement of bile or gall bladder is very less. However, the blood sugar level seems to be high and needs to be clinically evaluated and tested again.
I would also recommend testing for serum bilirubin and other liver function tests to make sure that there is no liver involvement. But your husband will have to consult a physician and get clinically evaluated.
