What Days Are The Safest For An Intercourse To Avoid Pregnancy?

Question: hello sir , my girl friend has period length of 34 days . her last period dates are 16th Aug 2014, 18th september 2014. we use condom for contraception. please guide which days are safest to do sex ?
Brief Answer:
OVULATION IS UNRELIABLE, BETTER USE CONDOMS
Detailed Answer:
Hello
THanks for writing to us with your health concern.
WIth delayed cycles, ovulation can never be predicted.
In general, it occurs 14 days prior to periods.
Thus for her, counting 1st day of bleeding as day 1, the unsafe days can be anywhere from day 10 to day 22.
As you can see, this method is most unreliable if you wish to avoid a pregnancy.
It is best to continue using condoms consistently and correctly.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

Thanks Dr for instant reply. taking in to account of delayed period length of 34 days , you have advised 10th day from 22nd day from 1st day of bleeding , can we do sex using condom in between 5th day to 8th day and 25th day to 33rd day . please confirm by doing in these period it will be 100% safe ?
Brief Answer:
YES, IT IS SAFE, NOTHING IS 100 %
Detailed Answer:
Apart from avoiding sex, there is no 100 % safe way to avoid a pregnancy !
Accidents can always happen , particularly with irregular cycles.
However, generally speaking, ovulation cannot occur as early as day 5 to day 8 and as late as day 25 to day 33.
Having intercourse on these days with condoms in addition is the best you can do , no more precautions to take.
Take care.
