Question: My aunt had a heart attack and the doctor has suggested an open heart surgery. Is open heart surgery really needed in this case? Any chance of minimal invasive procedure?

Brief Answer:
Multivessel Angioplasty vs CABG(bypass)

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome.
It is Dr Sameer, cardiologist from Fortis Hospital.
I just went through the Angio report & can see that your aunt has a Triple Vessel Disease.
The treatment of choice for such patients is CABG(bypass) which is a very good option. Other treatment option is Multivessel Angioplasty (means putting many stents) which is a minimally invasive option.
Generally bypass is considered far better than multivessel Angioplasty. Long term results of bypass is better than angioplasty.
Bypass though sounds big, but it is considered a very safe surgery.
I know this is a major surgery, but considering long term benefits & benefit to patient bypass is the best option. Its just about making up of mind & you will see things will be fine.
I hope i answered your query. If you have any more question, feel free to ask.
Thanks
Take care.
