What Diet Has To Be Followed For Someone With Hypothyroid Condition?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Thanks for posting your query.
Generally, there is no hypothyroidism diet. There is no evidence that eating or avoiding certain foods will improve thyroid function in people with hypothyroidism.
If you have hypothyroidism, take thyroid hormone replacement as directed by your doctor, in generally on an empty stomach.
One thing is for sure: taking a thyroid hormone replacement medication every day, exactly as prescribed, can help restore your thyroid hormone balance.
However, there are some foods, which suppress thyroid function. They are called Goitrogens. In normal individual, goitrogens can induce hypothyroidism and goiter. In hypothyroid, goitrogens can further depress thyroidal function and stimulate the growth of the thyroid (goiter). So these foods have to be restricted in the diet (not to be taken more than twice weekly).
These include:
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Brussel Sprouts
Cabbage
Mustard leaves XXXXXXX
Turnips
Rape seed (Canola Oil)
Other goitrogens include:
Soy
Pine nuts
Millet
Peanuts
