What Do Calcium Deposits In A Mammogram Report Indicate?
Question: I recently had a mammogram and it showed calcium deposits, B1 Rads Grade 5. FYI, I previously had breast cancer, DCIS, and underwent a lumpectomy followed up with radiation and tomaxifen.
My question is what would your recommendation be for follow-up treatment? Can I have a repeat mammogram in 6 months or would you recommend a biopsy?
Thank you for your response. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes, a biopsy seems necessary
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Actually, a little bit more info is required. Is it in the same breast where cancer and DCIS was there? When was the previous surgery? Were any mammograms done in the last few years? In that case I assume this is a new finding.
However, BIRADS-5 is something which can't be ignored and the usual practice is to do a biopsy right-away.
Hope this helps. I will be available to answer further follow-up queries, if any.

Thanks for your response. My previous surgery was in 2007 and was in the same breast. I also had breast cancer in my opposite breast in 1985. Both times I had a lumpectomy followed by radiation. Both were DCIS.
If it makes any difference, I am 63 y/o.
