Posted on Wed, 22 Jul 2015
Question: I finished a Z Pac for a sinus or upper respitory infection, but still feel awful-weak, fatigue, dizzy and not much appitite. Could I still have an infection, or I now think I have UTI. Could I feel like this from that also?

Brief Answer:
more information is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if you have fever then something is wrong! If you only feel fatigued, etc but without fever (without using paracetamol-acetaminophen or other drugs that lower the temperature) then it could be just the remnants of the infection. Why do you think that you have a UTI? Did you have any symptoms? What symptoms? Do you have a history of UTI in the past? Do you have any kidney problem (like renal stones for example)? What about your respiratory tract symptoms like headache, congestion, etc? Did they get any better? How long ago did the infection start and for how many days did you take azithromycin?

I'll be glad to comment more on your case, when you provide the necessary information.

Kind Regards!

I have a history of UTI, I also have pain when I urinate.

I took the Z Pac for 5 days.

Brief Answer:
a urinalysis would be required

Detailed Answer:
Since azithromycin is not the right antibiotic for urinary tract infection, I would recommend doing a urinalysis (for a quick result) and a urine culture (takes a couple of days) to make sure whether a urinary tract infection is present or not. The most common symptoms in lower urinary tract infections are urgency and frequency that is going to the toilet every so often and feeling like if your bladder is full but passing only a few drops of urine each time. After finishing urination the symptom may return very soon or you may feel like you still have urine in your bladder.

If you do have a UTI then another antibiotic has to be prescribed. Cephalosporins and quinolones are common choices for urinary tract infections.

Kind Regards!
