Question: Dear Doctor, I am 31 years old and have a 1.5 year old son whom I am breast-feeding. I had a c section surgery in March 2016 - I have home food daily cooked in Ghee and also have a regular exercise regime of 45-60 mins on a daily basis. However off late I have begun to feel tired and sometimes weakness too - I am at present not taking any protien or any other supplement apart from day to day food. My Questions:

What would be the cause of this?
Would you suggest any supplements?
Are over the counter supplements like Protinex/Ensure helpful in this regard?

Hello,
As you are breast feeding, firstly yo shoudlstop breast feeding completely now , as your breast milk , now, do not contain any nutrients and is more of a pacifier for your child. Start weaning sooner . This would help reduce feeding stress and place you in a better state of health.
Secondly start multivitamin capsules once a day daily for at least 2 month. Incorporate fruits in diet daily especially citrus fruits like mosammbi, oranges and pomegranate. Increase your daily water intake to 3-4 litres per day. Ghee is pure saturated fat and not the initial source of energy for body and is utilised only after carbohydrates and proteins are utilised , so they are just deposited as fat in body which increases weight. So take nutritious fibrous diet and decrease ghee intake.
