What Do Fluctuations In Thyroid Profile Reading While On Eltroxin Indicate?

I am 36 years old & Hypothyroid since 20 years. I am on Eltroxin 100 mcg. I observe that my thyroid profile is fluctuating since a year.
Recently I have gone for TSH test & it was 14. Please suggest if I should increase/decrease the medicne (eltroxin) dosage?
Also do I need to go for thyroid test, on fast? I was not on fast, when I went for the test recently.
My other complaints include,
Body pains
Headaches
Fatigue
Hair loss
PCOD
Please suggest how I can overcome these. Also, is there a way to prevent thyroid fluctuations?
Thank you!
Increase the dose
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
Your TSH is high. So you need to increase the dose to 125 mcg after consulting your physician.
Follow this check list to prevent fluctuations in TSH
1. Be regular with medications
2. Always take tablets in morning empty stomach
3. Take food/ tea/ coffee only after 1 hour of Eltroxin
4. If you miss a tablet, you have to take 2 tablets the next day
5. Don't take any other medication within 1 hour of Eltroxin
6. Make sure you don't have gastritis or any other stomach problem, that decrease the Eltroxine absorption from stomach
7. Keep Eltroxin in a sun protected area
8. Always buy medicine in full bottle from a good chemist.
You can do the blood test either in fasting or after food, before or after medications. This won't affect the TSH values. The T4 value will vary with medication, so tell your Doctor how the test was done.
All your symptoms may be related to thyroid hormone fluctuations. So we will first correct that. If symptoms persists, we will do other tests.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you
