What Do High Cholesterol And ALT Levels Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Mar 2017
Question: Hi I recently had a lab work to qualify me for a life insurance policy. Besides the high cholesterol, my AST and ALT (liver) numbers game back really high. My AST was a 38 on a scale of 0-33 and my ALT was 80 on a scale of 0-45. I have a Doctor's apt. on Wednesday but after reading the articles on Webmd the 80 on the ALT seems pretty bad. Can you confirm how bad it is and give me an idea of what tests I will need to take in the future?

Brief Answer:
It's high

Detailed Answer:
Hello !Thank you for posting your question here
I have gone through your concern and I understand.
The ALT level are high of course (not extremely bad),moderate ,could be back to normal when we treat according to the cause .
It shows that your liver is being damaged and could be high cholesterol the reason,so you need to start the treatment for high cholesterol .
According to the cholesterol levels you can follow just a low fatt diet or medications.
Besides blood test you can do a liver ultrasound to see for build up cholesterol in your liver, check for viral infection (hepatitis B,C).

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if you have any further clarifications, I will be happy to help.
Take Care !

Hi,

Thank you for your answer and clarification. So does this mean I have liver disease? I do display some of the symptoms like fatigue, weight loss, loss of appetite just to name a few.

On my test my cholesterol was 309, HDL 40, LDL 216 and triglycerides 264.
The hepatitis B and C was negative.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Could be due to high cholesterol, triglicerid

Detailed Answer:
Hello again! Sorry for my late reply .
This means that your liver cells are getting damaged could be due to high cholesterol or a primarily liver dissease .
I can see that your cholesterol level ,triglicerid ,LDL are high ( could be a reason of You liver damage ).
You need to do a physical examination by your local doctor and a liver ultrasound to check more the liver (if you have fatty liver ).You will discus with your local doctor about the proper treatment to low your lipids level after the examinations.

Keep eating healthy and yes do excercises meanwhile
