What Do High Liver Enzymes Indicate?

Question: I have high liver enzymes. Left side I believe. Sgot 44, sgpt 57. My question I'm have surgery on my shoulder. Can these numbers mean liver disease? I've read different things on different sites. And I've read it's dangerous to have surgery with these numbers. My other numbers, total protein 6.6, albumin 4.5, billrubin 1.1. I've been a heavy drinker for over 10 years. My doc just told me to quit drinking. Never said I needed to come back for further testing.
Brief Answer:
GGT test is more specific and recommended
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The liver enzyme SGOT/SGPT is marginally raised and it is normal if one consumes alcohol for a very long time and it is not a contraindication for surgery.
The protein level of albumin is within normal limit which suggest a very minimal damage if at all. Other values are within normal limit.GGT liver test is more specific regarding liver functional capability.
You may share the complains if you have any.
Hope this helps.
