What Do Intermittent Episodes Of Urticaria On The Forearms And Hips Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: I have recently been having intermittent episodes of pruritic urticaria on my forearms and hips. It seems to occur when I need to have a BM, as in the morning. The itching starts first, then the rash. After the BM it subsides and is gone in about 45 minutes. What might be causing this, and what can I do about it? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Details required

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query and photograph.
It is definitely urticaria.
Urticaria is an allergic reaction.
You must be allergic to any product you are using.
Take an antihistamine tablet like cetrizine for immediate relief.
Can you please elaborate what is BM.
Is it bowel movement?
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.

Yes. BM is bowel movement. Apparently, you missed the point. I already knew the diagnosis: urticaria. I already knew the treatment: antihistamine. But, what you missed was the question regarding the connection between bowel movements and the onset of the urticaria; plus the fact that the rash disappears within 45 minutes of having a bowel movement. This urticarial reaction is somehow related to the need to have a bowel movement, and is relieved by having said bowel movement. Are you aware of any connection between the onset of pruritic urticaria and bowel function? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Cholinergic urticaria

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the clarification.
Cholinergic urticaria is associated with bowel movement and dizziness.
I would like to know few additional details.
1. Do you get these lesions after a stressful event like running, sweating etc.
2. You feel only bowel movement or there is dizziness too.
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.
