What Do Low MPV Levels In A Blood Test Report Indicate?
The platelet count is the best index to evlauate the platelets
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Platlets are very important in the blood stasis and clot formation and prevention of bleeding so I understand that you are worried about having an abnormal result.
Low MPV tells us that the volume of the platelets are low but the best indext to use is the number of the Platelets. That shoud be between 150-450x10³.
If the values are above 100x10³ than there is nothing to worry and no furhter tests are indicated. If the number of the platelets is under 50x10³ than the risk of bleeding is there.
To be able to increase the volume of platelets it is best done if you know the cause of it and in your case I am not really sure you have a real problem with the platelets or not.
I would recommend you to:
1. check the number of platelets in your complete blood count and platelet count (this is a different test and more specific for the platelets).
2. if your platelets are 100x10³ and more there is nothing to worry
3. If they are between 50-100x10³ than they are low and investigations might be done but you are still not at risk of bleeding. Under 30x10³ than the risk of bleeding is present and it is urgent under 12x10³.
If the platelets are low than there are a few other tests to be done to find the cause of it and will give more informaiton on how to help them go up.
I hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you but please feel free to write back if anymore clarificaitons are needed.
Kind regards
