What Do My ECG Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 27 Jul 2016
Question: Hi
I went for an ECG on 8July16 - the ECG is attached. The ECG report stated that there was a left atrium abnormality and that the ECG was abnormal and unconfirmed. The consulting physician signed off the report as " within normal limits".
I would like to know whether the final sign off indicates that the ECG was normal ( i.e the aberration was a machine issue) or that there was an abnormality which was within limits? What further steps do you suggest I take?
I am hypertensive and have proteinuria since early 2010 and am on Cardace 10 mg, Atorva 10mg. Total cholestrol is 163 mg/dl as at July16. The previous ECG in March 2015 was reported as "Normal ECG, within normal limits". Thanks

Brief Answer:
The ECG is withen nomral limits

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
I am Dr. Mody and I would be addressing your concern.
The attached ECG is withen nomral limits and you need not worry about the same . It doesn't fit into tye strict criteria for left atrial abnormality .
It's my belief that the slight change in the lead placement may have resulted in the mis interpretation by the machine . Also there is no clinical basis for you to have left atrial enlargement particularly if your blood pressure is well under control with Cardace. With the information I have I don't recommend any furthur test at present however, the way forward is to get 2 d echocardiography done which would give us dimensions for left atrium . It will also give us more information about any change in the heart , because of hypertension.
The cholesterol is well controlled at present.
