What Do My HVS Test Results Indicate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hello
I recently had a hvs following a miscarriage. I am very concerned about the results as I am trying for a second baby. I have no symptoms of vaginal infection, but recently suffered a uti ( treated after the hvs) I hope some one can interpret these results and give me a clear idea of what is happening.
The results were as such:
White blood cells NOT seen
Epithelial cell +
Yeast Not seen
Clue Cells NOT seen
Trichomonas Not seen
Culture
Heavy growth Escherchia Coli, significance uncertain
Ampicillin R
Cefuroxime S
Ciprofloxacin S
Gentamicin S
CO amoxiclav S
NO anaerobes isolated
I was given cefuroxime 500mg 7 days 3 times daily
Can someone please tell me, is this an infection or colonialization of e coli, how worried should I be that this can recur? Also does my partner need treatment ? I was told this could be contaminant from uti. Can you have ecoli in the vagina with no wbc
Thank u in advance

Brief Answer:
Likely contamination
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
E Coli presence in the high vaginal swab is usually due to contamination from the urine or genitalia.
Bacterial Infection is not possible in the vagina without the presence of the white blood cells or pus cells.
It is not likely to affect the chances of pregnancy and neither your husband needs treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
