What Do My MRI Scan Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: I am having the gastric sleeve procedure in the next few days. The question I have is that my MRI reports show tiny cysts on the pancreas. I don't think they will be any problems in the future, but if they ever had to do an ERCP or an EUS, could they still see the whole pancreas?

Is there other alternatives?

Also, please give me your opinion on the likelihood of a tiny cyst changing. I was told very rarely. Is there percentages on that?

Brief Answer:
As described below

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Nice to see you again.
Read your additional history and understood the concerns.
If the pancreatic tiny cyst as seen on MRI is a ''simple cyst'', it will not create any problem in future.
MRI itself is a good investigation for pancreas, shows whole pancreas. ERCP shows the duct on pushing a XXXXXXX into pancreatic duct. EUS shows the pancreatic head the best and gives clearer idea about the cyst if in head of pancreas.
Contrast enhanced CT scan also shows pancreas in-full.
Every investigations has its merits and demerits and your Specialist and/or the Radiologist can decide what is best suited in your situation.

As said, tiny simple cyst does not change and does not cause any problems. It is usually an incidental finding. If it is not simple then the further diagnostics will help to know the output. Hence is reported as simple, stop worrying. Your operating Surgeon will be the most watchful about the cyst than anyone else.
Percentage: finding out soon.

All the best for your Surgery.

Please review the attached MRI reports. August 2016 and Dec. 2016. I would like your opinion on the tiny cysts on the pancreas.

Brief Answer:
can be followed up later.

Detailed Answer:
The report shows few tiny pancreatic cysts in the tail of pancreas and advised to have follow up later means these are not suspicious of anything.

So, what are the odds of these cysts staying benign indefinitely?

I was told by a gastroenterologist that only about 1 in 10000 cysts change and become cancerous.
What is your opinion on this? Please add more.

Brief Answer:
I think of the same

Detailed Answer:
I do agree with the opinion given by your Doctor.
This needs a regular follow-up by Ultrasound/CT/MRI as will be decided by your Gastroenterologist.
