What Do My Kidney Function Test Results Indicate?
Question: Ill make this short.
I've had back pain for over 10 years( multiple disc issues) but noticed a change recently(last 3 months)
Pain has been a soreness in lower ribs on back.
All tests normal, urinaylisis normal, kidney function normal.
Urinated saturday and it was cloudy. I had never noticed this before.
I have urine test strips at home and I checked urine this morning.
I have high PH and trace protein showing.
is this from kidney stones?
My recent labs for kidney function were
creatine -1.1
BUN - 12
GFR - normal
Urinalyisis at doctor was normal across the board but some weeks have passed and these are my findings.
one episode of cloudy urine. Back pain mainly on right side, high PH and trace protein(maybe very trace because it barely changes color) on urine dipstick
PH - 8.0.
I have no fever, no nausea, just back soreness, a cloudy urine episode and this recent dipstick finding.

A stone would normally cause severe cramping pain that tends to travel from loin to groin. In most , the pain is bad though this can vary.
It would normally be associated with blood in the urine in addition , blood is normally detected by some means , in 85% of persons with stones.
The fact the pain is not severe or loin to groin, there is no blood makes a stone unlikely. Also frequency tends to occur as well
Increase pH can sometimes occur with infection though there are other causes. Infection would also cause pain and a cloudy urine. Most cases of infection also have other symptoms but if the infection is early, may not be present as yet
Both the BUN and creatinine were normal in your recent test, since kidney function does not normally deteriorate rapidly (unless a serious illness involved), can assume that the kidneys are still functioning fine.
If the pain and change in appearance of urine continue, then you would need to consider visiting your doctor for urine analysis.
If the pain increases in its intensity or blood is detected then you may need an ultrasound to take a look at the urinary tract.

Went to ER this morning as i had a shooting back pain, and their urinalysis was normal.
No protein, no sugar,
Ph- 7.0
Everything says negative or none.
Im so confused. I argued for a CT but the doctor said he couldnt justify it as he didnt think it was a stone. He thinks its muscular too.
This is wearing me out. I know he wont give the CT because of cost.

If the urine analysis was normal, however, this makes it less likely that this is a stone because this would normally cause some changes.
Infection is also not likely since the ph is normal and the other aspects of the urine analysis are normal.
If you really want the imaging, you may need to see your private doctor to request it if the pain does not resolve with pain killers.

It resolves with pain killers but i cant believe theres so much avoidance to do a CT.

No one really seems concerned i guess due to my history of back pain. The ER Doctor said with negative cells, casts, crystals, blood, he didnt think it was a stone. He told me i was likely dehydrated and sent me on my way.
My PCP is about the same. He said that with low discomfort and normal labs and Xray for so long, it wasnt a disease. He said its likely further degeneration of my spine and i need to see my neuro.
I have C4-C6 canal stenosis with C5-C6 decreased signal strength with 5mm bulge,
T5-T6 moderate decreased signal 5mm bulge
T11 moderate arthrosis.
L4-L5 L5-S1 bulges and stenosis.
Report showes multiple discs with moderate arthrosis.
