Question: Hi Dr. Satvinder,

About a month and half ago i started feeling some discomfort and a little pain on the middle right side of my throat. when i wake up i dont feel it much and it hurts more after passing food. I thought it was a normal sore throat so i went to the ENT and the doctor did not notice anything but still gave me antibiotics augmentine 1g...that feeling ofcourse didnt go away so he used the endoscopy camera tool to see deep inside my throat in which he found nothing and told me that maybe its from my stomach...after that i went to a thyroid doctor to check my thyroid glands through physical examination and ultra sound with blood test...all blood tests were normal with ultra sound showing normal...saw a Gastroenteroligist doctor 4 days back which she did physical exam but not internal and prescribed pantozol which i started...then the ENT doctor noticed a white spot in the area it hurts which she then pulled out, but it came back in 3 days...attached are some pics.

do you have any recommendation on what i should do next? Or what this discomfort in my throat could be? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Please gargle with warm salt water

Detailed Answer:
Hello

You seem to be having an early stage of tonsillitis and the best treatment would be to gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day

I would explain in detail
The tonsils have small depression on their surface called as crypts. Many a times these crypts become swollen, either due to some mild trauma or an infection, in such cases food gets trapped in them. This food then becomes a good culture medium for the bacteria to grow, leading to tonsillitis.

please dont worry as this is common.

The best treatment would be to gargle with warm salt water as this will remove the trapped food material and also reduce the swelling of the tonsils/crypts

In my opinion antibiotics and pantoprazole will not be of much use.
However if you have a sticky sensation in the throat or burning sensation in your chest, then pantoprazole 40mg can be taken once a day.

Please dont worry, you will be fine

regards

Brief Answer:
Yes it is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Yes it is normal to have this problem for even up to 6 months. Please dont worry!!

If the tonsils increase in size or you develop fever, then you may need to meet an ent doctor. otherwise just continue the gargle.

Take care
