default
Posted on Sat, 13 Jun 2015
Question: EKG normal, Calcification CT showed no traces of calcification, Echo stated only "severe left atrial enlargement and test technically difficult". No symptoms. Did these tests as part of weight loss plan. current weight 300, 5' 6", former smoker. What does this mean?

Procedure: 2D, Color Doppler and Spectral Doppler.

Indication for study: Heart Murmur

Cardiac Rhythm: Normal sinus.Study quality:

Imaging limitations: This study was subject to imaging limitations due to body habitus.

Final Impressions:

1. Technically difficult exam.

2. Normal left ventricular size, borderline wall thickness, normal global systolic function, calculated EF of 66 %.

3. Severely enlarged left atrium.

4. The aortic valve is not well visualized, no stenosis and no regurgitation.

Scheduled to meet with cardiologist next week but freaking out before then. Started weight loss plan and that dr has referred me to cardiologist to be safe after the echo results. High anxiety, typically normal blood pressure. 220 Cholesterol.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to freak out;transesophageal echo advised further

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

First of all, please try to be calm as there is nothing to freak out in here.

The actual findings of Echo are showing dilatation of left atrium, and might carry the risk for arrhythmia. Although you might have this risk, it is not said you are going to have arrhythmia.

Next, to my opinion, you should relax until you see your cardiologist. I advise to run trans-esophageal-echo in order to re-evaluate your case better and find out why your left atrium was found dilatated.

For the moment, I advise to:
- try to relax
- avoid salty/oily foods
- take chamomile tea

Let me know the results of cardiologist consultation and trans-esophageal echo.
