Brief Answer:
asymptomatic microscopic haematuria.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

So, you are having asymptomatic microscopic haematuria (blood in urine report) which can be found actually in multiple conditions.

Usually this type of haematuria is found in primary kidney or urinary tract pathology but it is not always necessary.

Therefore,if I were your treating doctor then I will advice you.

1. You need to do complete work to find out where is the cause of haematuria.

Ask your doctor for following investigations-

i) Urine culture and routine Microscopic (to see if any infection is there).

ii) Sonography of both kidneys and pelvic area to rule out any tumour or stone.

iii) You might require cystoscopy (endoscopy of urinary bladder) if no cause will be found.

iv) Lastly to know about kidney functions your doctor may advice you intravenous pyelography (it's a procedure to understand how the kidneys are functioning).

Serum kidney function tests should also be checked.

2. Please also mentioned to your doctor whether you are taking any pain killers or blood thinners for a long time as they may also cause haematuria.

So,until we find the cause of haematuria nothing much can be said, but usually it's a benign condition and subsides when the cause will also be cured. It's better to be concerned always but not to worry.

Meanwhile, ensure to drink more water to keep your urine dilute which will help to control hematuria.

Urine alkaliser like liquid citralka can also be taken thrice daily if you experience burning urination.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you for answering my first question..

My follow up question is about two urine test results I sent you. I would like to know what these are

WBC UA My result was 11 where it should be no higher than 5
Could you tell me what would cause my number to be high

RBC UA The result was 18 where it shouldn't be any higher than 4
Could you tell me what would cause this to be so high

Thank you

Brief Answer:
More than 10 WBCs could be due to urinary infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.

I can understand your what you are asking.

Clinically,we consider around 10 WBCs or pus cells in urine normally and beyond that could be due to urinary infection (which could be likely the possibility in your case).

Also,RBCs in urine is actually a microscopic hematuria means blood in urine.

Blood can be visible sometimes in urine and sometimes not but we can detect it from RBCs appearing in urine (when more than normal).

Hope you will understand now.If any doubt then feel free to ask again.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip kabra

Thank you for your follow up answer... I took a home urinary tract infection test today and the test strip showed purple the highest in the infection range... I am going to the dr on Tues... are these tests reliable and would you feel that an infection is the main cause of my counts being high since a home test showed infection at the highest amount... I just want to add I have no symptoms.. Is this strange to you seeing my blood cell counts.

I thank you for your help and with you answering my questions so promply I will definitely use your site again.. I thank you for please answering my last followup question..

Brief Answer:
UTI home tests kit are highly sensitive.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for the follow-up.

UTI home tests kit are highly sensitive test and if it comes positive,it should be ruled out by other confirmatory tests as i mentioned in my previous answer.

Also, asymptomatic urinary tract infection are not uncommon which itself is very difficult to diagnose because patient does not have any clinical symptoms like fever, lower abdominal pain or burning urination. It gets detected on routine screening on most of the time or if patient develops hematuria (blood in urine).

Urinary tract infections are more common in women than in men because the female urethra is shorter and closer to the anus, which allows bacteria from the intestines to come into contact more easily with the urethra.

In your case,I would not be worried about positive home tests and excess WBCs in urine examination report but the main concern is to find out the cause for blood in urine.

There are also less chances of your urine culture, kidney function tests and cystosopy reports come normal.

Lastly, urinary infection (if confirmed by specific tests) can be very easily treated with appropriate antibiotics but it is left undetected or untreated (after suspecting) the infection may spread to the kidney and can cause a more serious problem.

So that point of view,I would advise you to go for further tests as i already mentioned and see urologist or even physician who will know about it.

Hope this will help you XXXXXXX If you do not have any more question then kindly close the discussion.
