What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?
Question: Please let me know whether radiation is required? Also based on the reports is it safe to delay the radiation, if yes then by how much time?
Brief Answer:
low risk cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
I have gone through biopsy and MRI reports. The other documents are password protected. It appears to be a grade 1 stage 1b endometrial cancer. This has got good outcome irrespective of further treatment.
But if she is only observed without treatment, there is some risk of recurrence, albeit quite low. If we give radiation, that chance is minimized. Say, to prevent 1 recurrence, we need to treat 20 patients with radiation.
So, considering above factors, you may consider radiotherapy for her. If you decide so, it has to be started within 6 weeks of surgery.
Hope this helps.

The reason for thinking whether to go in for radiation or not is due to the side effects of radiation leading to any weakening of pelvic bones & to the spine.
She had a spine surgery in 2012 to remove a broken disc between L4 & L5, thereby leading to this concern about Radiation.
Also once the effected total system (Uterus & ovaries) have been removed where/what will the radiation be targeting. Also before going in for radiation is it advisable to go in for any other test to ensure that there are no traces of any cancer infection in other parts of the body.

Brief Answer:
WEAKENING OF BONES NOT A MAJOR CONCERN
Detailed Answer:
Disc prolapse surgery would not pose significant threat during of after radiation. Long term bone weakening is also not a major concern seen in day to day practice.
Radiation will target the pelvis (lower part of abdomen) to kill any remaining microscopic cancer cells. But as I said, the benefit in her case is very small. But some patients do want to take any therapy if there is any benefit, however small. While some do not want if there is minor benefit, because of potential side effects. in her case it is not must, but can be considered, if patient is willing.
No test including PET-CT can detect microscopic cells so it would not help.
