What Do My Ultrasound Test Results Indicate?
Bilateral nonobstructing renal stone.
Bilateral renal cysts and cystic nodules, some of which appear to be complex and cannot be completely characterized. Consider correlation with noncontrast and contrast-enhanced CT or MRI.
My urologist doesn't seem concerned, but said I could get the CT if I choose. My PCP just called for me to more testing. I will have it asap.
But I want to know what would you tell a patient with these results?
Better to get plain and contrast C.T Scan done to confirm the dagnosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your Ultrasound Scanning has revealed you to have Bilateral Complex Renal Cysts .
Normally Renal cysts detected on scan are thin walled ,without any septi are considered to be simple cysts and do not require any further tests or treatment .
But whenever there is suspicious of complex cyst (Cyst with Septi ) they need to be investigated further either by doing plain and contrast C.T Scan test or MRI to confirm the nature of the cyst especially as regards to rule out these cyst to be malignant .
I always advise my patient to undergo C,T Scan studies to be rest assured about the nature of the cyst as it is vital factor in deciding management of such cysts.
Please go ahead and get it done .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

It is not due to Lithotripsy
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
Lithotripsy does not cause transformation of long standing simple cyst in to complex cyst.
MRI is always superior to CT Scan as it does not use radiation but utilizes magnetic fields and sound waves ,

Lithotripsy does not cause damage cyst
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up ,
During lithotripsy energy is focused precisely on stone hence does not cause damage to cyst or kidney tissue .
It is known fact that simple cyst can get transformed in malignant cyst .
MRI is more precise than C.T scan .Now a days there is trend to go for MRI
Thanks and Regards.
