Question: Experiencing rapid heart beat that woke me from my sleep. Over past week, had some chest pain and pressure. Feeling general discomfort in chest area.

After reading your history, I would like you first to check your blood pressure. Rapid heart beat with chest pain and discomfort in your case are probably due to increase in your Blood pressure.
Next step would be to get an ECG done.
Also take an Omeprazole preparation before night meal. Sometimes gas in fundus of stomach can produce these symptoms.
