I have taken tenex for 20 yrs and switched from dilacor to lisinopril last year and a half. Did not have the cramps previous to taking lisinopril

Brief Answer:
May be the hydrochlorothiazide.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Your muscle cramps may be related to the "HCTZ" (hydrochlorothiazide). Lisinopril, which is an ACE inhibitor can be prescribed alone, or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide. So what you are taking is a combination of two medications. And it is more likely to be the hydrochlorothiazide, that is causing the problem.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a mild diuretic (water pill) and mild blood pressure medication.

If you noticed a correlation with starting this medication, talk with your doctor about this, and if your fluid retention and blood pressure are under control, perhaps he/she might consider prescribing lisinopril only - without the HCTZ.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

The dilacor that I took for years wasn't keeping my blood pressure under control and so the switch. The restless leg medicine helped me to sleep better but still had the cramps. Maybe not as much but still were annoying because most of them were in the high part of the thigh which took ten or more minutes to get them to quit. Warm heat does help but everyone says aren't you afraid of a blood clot. I also had a test done by a doctor which shocked my nerves and she also used needles. She thought it was coming from my back but not to have an operation on the back. In other words just put up with it. I have visited a chiropractor several times which seems to help and I take Aleve pm one at night. My blood tests have been run on potassium and magnesium and of course they are ok. Had my thyroid checked because of the horrible dry hands I have which is ok. I also broke out on my arms, hands, chest with a rash when the doctor decided I should take more of the restless leg medicine and muscle relaxer.

Brief Answer:
Information.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the additional information.

There are other blood pressure medication options to HCTZ. So if there is a correlation to your muscle cramps after starting it, look to that as the cause. Your doctor can switch medications or see how you do with Lisinopril without HCTZ.
