What Do Presence Of Persistent Reactive Lymphocytes In A Child Indicate?

Question: My daughter just turned three and she has persistent reactive lymphocytes. She was tested for EBV this week but it came up negative. What other tests should be considered?
Brief Answer:
Other common causes
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I presume that your daughter's lymphocyte count is in the normal range.
The commonest cause in children of her age are viral infections and pertussis. If your child had all the prescribed immunisations, then the chances of Pertussis, measles and rubella are low. She may have infection by other viruses Adenovirus, Coxsackie or Cytomegalovirus which can be tested for. It may also occur as a reaction to immunisations or certain medicines and due to less likely causes like hormonal or autoimmune causes.
If she does not have any other symptoms and she is thriving well, then there may not be a reason to worry.
Best wishes

Yes Doctor, her lymphocyte is within the normal range. I just want it to stay there which is why we're concerned. The first test, which brought this to our attention was over a year ago. Could an infection be that persistent?

Brief Answer:
Adenovirus can cause recurrent infections
Detailed Answer:
Was this result on an automated blood count or was it on a blood film reported by a haematologist? If a blood film reported by a haematologist is available, please upload it and if not done, please do the same. What was her ESR?
Was any blood test done in between 1 year and now? If so what was the result?
Adenovirus which causes upper respiratory and other common infection can be the cause and children at her age may have several episodes of cold or URTI.
