What Do Severe Navel Cramps In A Teenager Indicate?
Moderate, cramp type pain just above and to the sides of his belly button.
It comes on out of nowhere and lasts for a few seconds, then its gone.
He said it happens maybe every hour or so.
This has been happening for 2 days and today is better than yesterday.
No fever, diareha, vomiting.
He said the feeling can make him naseus.
He has had a groin injury that has caused hin to take advil for a week to 10 days.
He also said that a pepcid A/C seemed to help.
If i press on his stomach he says he feels uncomfortable.
What are your thoughts?
An utrasound abdomen should be done. Most likely gastritis and dyspepsia due to advil.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks you for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query
Mild do moderate intensity of symptoms an be suggestive of some motility problem with intestines. The circular muscle of the intestine is divided into segments about an inch long. For moving this food forward the intestinal muscles contract and relax alternatively alled as peristalysis. However, if the next segment were to remain contracted or at least partially contracted, the digested food may be forced through a very narrow lumen increasing pressure on intestine and causing inflammation.Other causes could be due to fasiculations of the pelvic floor muscles, appendicitis pain muscular spasm.
Secondarily he is taking advil. It is a anti inflammatory and can cause severe dyspepsia aad gastritis.Pain can be due to inflammation of gut mucosa as a result of gastritis.Gastritis is usually assocaited with nausea and vomiting.Abdomen is tende to touch. As pepacid is helping him probably its gastritis only.Add Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily to his regimen. Its a potent antacid and should always be given with Advil.
Suggestions-
Go for ultrasonogram abdomen to rule out any intestinal blockage initially.
USG wil also help to rule out presence of stone in gall bladder (very rare) or kidney.
For nausea give him Zofran 4mg twice daily.
For pain(if not relieved even after taking pantoprazole) i would rather suggest him to take antispasmodic like dicyclomine daily .This will give relief from spasms caused by intestinal contractions.
However final professsional advice can be given only after reports of ultrasonogram are there.
Hope i was helpful.
Feel free to follow up.
Thanks.
