Brief Answer:
may be trauma or infection

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Lymph nodes enlarge if there is any source of inflammation in the area that they drain (they are responsible for).
The lymph nodes in the neck are responsible for the head and neck region inclusive of the mouth, neck, ears, throat

Ear pain can be due to something going on with the ear or it may be referred pain. Referred pain means that it can be coming from another area of the body, in this case the throat (the reason that persons who have tonsils removed can have ear pain)

With only sore throat and no other cough and cold symptoms, you may have a bacterial infection of the throat though fever is usually present.
The other cause would be trauma to the throat or gum.

You can consider the use of an anti inflammatory agent such as naproxen or ibuprofen along with topical medication such as chloroseptic or diflam which have in an antiseptic and pain killer.

If there is no improvement or any worsening occurs then antibiotics may be needed

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
