What Do Sores On Scalp Indicate?

Question: I have had sores on scalp that scab over but don't go away. They just stay there. I have chronic candidiasis & remember having this type problem many years ago with my scalp & thought it may be the fungus, but I was also bit on my head earlier in the summer by a tick. Not sure why these sores are not going away. Have had them for about 2 months.

Thank you for asking Health Care Magic forum.
I have gone through your query.Sores that scab on scalp can be due to fungus or due to psoriasis.In case of psoriasis a light pink soreness will be present with sivery scaling.Skin scrapping should be sent for pathology examination for ruling out psoriasis.
In case of candidiasis of scalp in my patients i advise use of ketoconazole shampoo every alternative days for 1 month and after that weekly once for 1 month.
In case of psoriasis long term treatment is necessary.Tar products and salicylic acid work well for mild form.For moderate to severe form topical preparations like anthralin or tazorac is used.Over the counter tar shampoos and topical steroids will provide relief from itching.

Thank you for your answer. I called my local pharmacy & they said I need a prescription for ketoconazole shampoo. Can you call that in for me to CVS (205) 836-8344. I am in their computer. I feel sure it is fungal and would rather rule that out first. My husband looked and said it was not pink & no scaling.

By the way, do you know if the tick could cause anything. My husband had been jogging in park that is overgrown and he brought them home. I actually got one off my head & 2 off my ear. Terrible year for them.

Ticks can cause allergic problems. Regarding the prescription:We are not allowed to prescribe with out seeing the patient. Some countries and in Internet ketoconazole lotion is available as over the counter. If your country rule allows that you can get . Hope this may help you.
