Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2016
Question: hello I have done all my test which include CT scan and Colonoscopy the results of which have come back as negative. However my symptom of diarrhoea quite frequently and very very often and indigestion Is still present. My stool is foggy . I am a heart patient for the last 15 years with four stunts and also a Type 2 diabetic. I feel very weak and have shoulder muscle pain and have lost weight as well. Do you think my diarrhoea is a result or side-effects or reaction of any of my medication which are as follows

Heart Medications
1. Coplavix once daily
2. Sustac 2.6 mg 1+1
3. Vastarel MR 35 mg 1+1
4. Concor 2.5 mg (Bisoprolol) 1+1
5. Advant 8 mg once daily

Diabetes Medicine
1. Galvus Met (combination vildagliptin 25 mg and metformin 425mg) 1+ 1

My diabetes is very controlled. Do you think it is a reaction of any medicine.

Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM.

I read carefully all your concerns and previous conversation and I can say that:

1. From all your medications I can say that Galvus MET , advant and coplavix has side effects like gastrointestinal disturbance, diarrhea and bloating.
I need to know if your symptoms has started after you used these medication.
It will help a lot to determine if there is any relation from medication and your symptoms.
2. Otherwise I strongly suggest to do fecal exams to rule out / confirm gut infection.
3. It is too important to rule out /confirm malabsorbtion with fecal test for elastasa and the amount of lipids in stools.

Hope it was helpful to you!
