Question: I am a 35 year old female - stay at home parent to a 2.5 year old. Health background - on thyronorm 25 mcg since pregnancy (though the thyroid levels have been much within the normal limits lately), suffered from gestational diabetes with normal sugar levels post delivery and HBA1C within pre-diabetic range on periodical checks. Was obese (even before pregnancy) and have lost about 12 kgs since delivery. Bmi is still in the overweight range (75 kgs with height of 5ft'5). Family history of thyroid and diabetes. I have been trying to make a lot of lifestyle changes and exercise has been a permanent part of my daily schedule. I just had a comprehensive blood test performed and following parameters were not within normal range or criteria. What does this indicate ?

Rcb count 5.52 (Ref range 3.8-4.8)
Hemoglobin 11.2
Hematocrit 35.2
Mean Corpuscular Volume 63.9
Mean Corpuscular hemoglobin 20.3
Red cell distribution width 17.4

Under WBC - eosinophils 9
Esr 47
Urine analysis - exceptional readings (all other normal)
Trace protein
Trace Ketones
bacteria detected
diabetes profile - fasting blood glucose 125
hBA1c 5.9
cholesterol 237
Cholesterol HDL 64
Direct LDL cholesterol 148 (all other parameters normal)
Hydroxyvitamin D less than 4.2
TSH 3.023
( all other kidney and liver profile tests are within normal reference ranges)

Brief Answer:
Iron deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Your blood reports of hemogram are suggestive of iron deficiency anemia. You just need to:
1. Get a Stool for occult blood.
2. Kidney function tests.
If they are normal you just need iron supplements.
Now your Diabetic profile and Thyroid profile are well with in normal ranges.
Your Urine examination suggests Urinary tract infection. My recommendations on that would be to repeat a Urine sample with first morning mid stream Urine and to avoid any contamination. If still these are the results get a Urine culture done.
Your Vitamin D is very deficient and you would need to take Vitamin D supplements and Calcium supplements for the purpose.

This is my comprehensive review about your reports.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

Brief Answer:
If done it's all right.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, if your Kidney function tests are already performed then you need not to worry for this.
Your cholesterol is at border line and it requires regular exercises and fat free diet.
I hope it helps you.
